The figure with the long hair is meant to be Wild Bill Hickock. Among his many activities he was a regular gambler. He met his death while gambling, shot in the back by ‘Crooked Nose’ Jack McCall while holding aces and eights. Henceforward this combination was known as Dead Man’s Hand.
