Guy Fawkes was part of a conspiracy to reintroduce Catholic rule in Britain. He rented a cellar beneath the Houses of Parliament in which he was laying fuses to barrels of gunpowder, with a view to blowing up Parliament and King James I, when he was discovered by the king’s men. He has been described as the only man to enter Parliament with honest intentions.
